Aquaculture Grows NS
Like any responsible company, we always look to the future.
Since 2012, Cooke has invested significantly in our operations in Nova Scotia, including capital infrastructure on our marine farms, freshwater hatcheries, major expansions at both our feed manufacturing facility in Truro, our seafood distribution facility in Dartmouth, in research and development projects and community and student initiatives.
We would like to continue to grow and innovate in Atlantic Canada, and we see an opportunity to build on our business in Nova Scotia.
Kelly Cove Salmon Ltd., the Canadian salmon farming division of Cooke Aquaculture Inc., has applied for two new sea sites and the expansion of an existing site in Liverpool Bay, and boundary amendments at three of its salmon farming sites in Nova Scotia. This potential increase in production will add new full-time jobs to our existing team and create the potential for local businesses to diversify to support this emerging industry in the province.
The applications are one step in the process; our community engagement will continue throughout the next steps. We look forward to the results of the technical review by the Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture and other federal and provincial agencies, analysis from the network partners, and participating in the Review Board’s Adjudicated Public Hearing. Our community engagement will continue throughout these next steps.
More information about the regulatory process for acquiring aquaculture leases and licences in Nova Scotia, is available through Nova Scotia’s Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
